Nouns (Basic English Grammar)

A noun names a person, place, thing, or idea. Singular means one. Singular nouns refer to one person, one place, one thing, or one idea. Plural means more than one. Plural nouns refer to more than one person, place, thing, or idea.

(Noun ले विभिन्न व्यक्ति, ठाउँ, वस्तु र बिचारलाई बुझाउँछ । Singular Nouns ले एउटा व्यक्ति, ठाउँ, वस्तु र बिचारलाई बुझाउँछ भने Plural Noun ले धेरैलाई बुझाउँछ ।)

Singular Nouns का केही उदाहरणहरु:

Plural Nouns - For the plural form of most nouns, add "-s" to the end of the word. (धेरैजसो Plural Nouns हरु अन्तिममा "-s" थपिएर बनेका हुन्छ ।)

अन्तिममा "-s" थपिएर Plural Nouns केही उदाहरणहरु:

Nouns that end in "-ch", "-x", or "-s", add "-es" to make the word plural. ("-ch", "-x", वा "-s", भएका शब्दहरुको अन्तिममा "-es" जोडिएर Noun हुन्छ ।)

अन्तिममा "-ch", "-x", र "-s" थपिएर बन्ने कुनै कुनै Plural Nouns हरु

• watch - watches
• box - boxes
• dress - dresses
• bus - buses

Nouns ending in "-f" or "-fe", change "f" to "v" and add "-es" to make the word plural. (अन्तिममा "-f" वा "-fe" भएका शब्दलाई Plural बनाउँदा "-f" लाई v बनाएर es थप्नुपर्छ ।)

• shelf - shelves
• wife - wives
• leaf - leaves
• life - lives

Some nouns have different plural forms. (कुनै कुनै noun हरुको छुट्टै Plural Form हुन्छन ।

• child - children
• woman - women
• man - men
• mouse - mice
• goose - geese

Nouns ending in vowels like "-y" or "-o" do not have definite rules. (अन्तिममा "-y" र "-o" ले सकिने शब्दको Plural Form बनाउँदा खास नियम हुँदैन ।)

• baby - babies
• toy - toys
• kidney - kidneys
• potato - potatoes
• memo - memos
• stereo - stereos
  

A few nouns have the same singular and plural forms.  (कुनै कुनै Noun को Singular र Plural Form एउटै हुन्छ ।)

• sheep - sheep
• deer - deer
• series - series
• species - species
